How to Get Rid of Pimples on Lips

Pimple on lipsPimples on lips are irritating and uncomfortable and extra precautions should be taken in order to get rid of them.

They may be caused by hormonal changes in the body, oily skin, a poor diet, stress, or you may simply be prone to a pimple on your lip line.

To get rid of lip pimples, you need to gather certain supplies for pimple treatment.

You will need warm water, a medicated soap or a soap suitable for oily skin, a clean washcloth, cotton balls, astringent, cotton swabs and a bandage.

The first step is to soak the washcloth in hot water. While it is soaking, tie long hair away from the face so that it won’t get in the way.

Wash the rest of your face before washing the lips, to stop transferring oil and bacteria to the spot. Wash the area with the lip pimple last using small, light motions. Repeat this process three times every day for several days.

Take the hot washcloth and let it cool just enough so that it is tolerable on your skin. Position it directly on top of the lip pimple and apply gentle pressure for around 5 minutes. Using it as a hot compress reduces swelling and minimizes irritation to the skin.

Even if you think your hands are clean, they are likely to be carrying traces of bacteria. The last thing you want to do is spread more germs from one part of your body to your lips, as this could aggravate the spot further.

Do not pick, scrape or scratch spots, as hard as this may be!

Lip Pimples, to Pop, or not to Pop?

If you think your lip pimple can be popped, hold the hot washcloth over it and press down gently for 20 seconds. Apply pressure to either side of the pimple with two cotton swabs. Pushing the swabs very gently toward each other may pop it, releasing the pus from inside. If this does not happen within a few seconds, stop pressing. If you have a zit that is not ready to be popped and you keep trying, you are at risk of scarring and infection.

If you are successful in popping it and pus leaks from inside, repeat the process until all pus has gone and a little blood comes out. Leave it alone for a couple of minutes, then wash your face with soap and warm water.

The final step in dealing with pimples on lips is to apply an antibiotic cream or aloe vera lotion directly onto the spot where the blemish used to be. Cover the area with a small dressing if possible as this will protect the site until it has healed.
